In short

Webroot Business Endpoint Protection, also called Webroot SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection, is cloud-managed antivirus for Windows PCs, Macs and Windows servers. It uses cloud threat intelligence, a light agent and Evasion Shield against script and fileless attacks, and is designed not to conflict with other security software. It is licensed per device.

What Webroot Business Endpoint Protection is

Webroot Business Endpoint Protection is Webroot's core product for organisations: anti-malware and threat prevention for laptops, desktops and servers, managed entirely from the cloud. On licences and in older documentation you will see the fuller name Webroot SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection; it is the same product.

Rather than relying on large signature files on every device, the agent checks files and behaviour against Webroot's cloud threat intelligence in real time, combined with machine learning and behaviour-based analysis. That keeps the agent small, which is one reason it is often chosen for older or lower-specification machines. Protection covers the usual ways threats arrive: email attachments and links, web browsing, downloads and removable media.

Management is through the Webroot Management Console in a browser, with sites, groups and policies. There is no on-premises management server to maintain. If you are new to the category, our guide to antivirus software for business explains what a business product adds over home antivirus.

Is Webroot still in business, and what about OpenText?

Yes. Webroot is part of OpenText, which acquired Webroot's parent company, Carbonite. Webroot's UK website describes it as "Webroot, an OpenText company", and when we checked it on 1 November 2026 it still sold the product as Webroot Business Endpoint Protection.

Large software groups often bring acquired products under their own naming, so renewal notices, quotes and partner catalogues can use a different name from the one on the vendor's website. If you have a renewal or quote for an OpenText- or Webroot-branded endpoint product and are not sure what it is, send it to us and we will check it against Webroot's current line-up before you renew. We quote under the name the vendor uses at the time.

Key features

Webroot describes these capabilities for Business Endpoint Protection:

CapabilityWhat it does
Real-time threat preventionBlocks malware and ransomware using cloud threat intelligence, machine learning and behavioural analysis
Evasion ShieldDetects and blocks file-based and fileless script attacks, including malicious JavaScript, VBScript, PowerShell and macros, with allow-listing for legitimate scripts
Web protectionWarns about and blocks malicious websites and downloads
Cloud management consoleSites, groups, policies, system status and remediation from a browser
RMM and PSA integrationsConnects with the remote management and service desk tools IT providers use
No software conflictsDesigned to run without conflicting with other security software, so it can be deployed without reimaging

Evasion Shield is the part most relevant to modern attacks: many ransomware and credential theft campaigns start with a script or a macro rather than a classic executable. That is the same territory next-generation antivirus products aim at.

Supported platforms

Webroot publishes its supported platforms, which currently cover:

  • Windows desktops and laptops (Windows 10 and 11; Webroot also lists Windows 8.1)
  • Macs, on Apple silicon and Intel, from recent macOS releases; see antivirus for Macs in business
  • Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025; see server antivirus
  • Virtual machines on VMware, Citrix, Hyper-V and VirtualBox

Two gaps are worth knowing before you choose:

  • Linux: Webroot's published support list covers Windows and macOS, not Linux. If you have Linux servers, see Linux antivirus for vendors that cover them.
  • Phones and tablets: there is no mobile operating system in Webroot's list. See mobile antivirus for business for the options.

Support for older operating systems changes over time, so we check your estate against Webroot's current list before ordering.

Is Webroot an EDR? Add-ons explained

No. Webroot Business Endpoint Protection is prevention-focused antivirus. Webroot sells Webroot Core Endpoint Detection and Response as a separate per-device add-on on the same account, for organisations that want detection and response alongside prevention. Webroot's public pages do not set out its features in detail, so we confirm current capabilities and platform support before you order. For the wider picture, see EPP vs EDR and our EDR, XDR and MDR guidance.

The add-ons we supply with Webroot Business Endpoint Protection:

Add-onWhat it doesUnit
Core Endpoint Detection and ResponseDetection and response on devices already running WebrootPer device
DNS ProtectionFilters web lookups by category and reputation, on and off the office networkPer device

Deploying Webroot or switching from it

Webroot is designed to install without conflicting with other security software, which makes a staged rollout easier than with many products. Even so, running two full antivirus products side by side for long is rarely a good idea: they compete for the same files and can make troubleshooting harder. A typical deployment through us:

  1. Check the estate against Webroot's current support list, flagging Linux machines, phones and any unsupported Windows or macOS versions.
  2. Deploy the agent from the console's installer or through your RMM or device management tool.
  3. Set policies by site or group, including script allow-listing for any legitimate PowerShell or macros your business relies on, so Evasion Shield does not block them.
  4. Remove the previous product once Webroot is reporting from each device.
  5. Review: we can go through detections and licence counts with you once it has settled in.

If you are moving away from Webroot, perhaps because you need Linux or mobile coverage from one product, the same steps apply in reverse. We do not publish removal tools or uninstall procedures here; the vendor's support material covers those, and we handle the switch as part of supplying the new product.

How Webroot is licensed, and who it suits

Webroot Business Endpoint Protection is licensed per device: each workstation, laptop or server running the agent uses one licence. Through us it is billed monthly on your Forever Systems account, and we can reconcile device counts so retired machines drop off. Pricing depends on device numbers and add-ons; see Webroot Business Endpoint Protection licensing on our licensing site, or our business antivirus cost guide for how vendors' models compare. Ask us for a quote.

Webroot tends to suit:

  • Small and medium-sized businesses with Windows and Mac devices and a few Windows servers
  • Estates with older or lower-specification machines, where a light agent matters
  • Organisations planning DNS filtering and staff training from the same vendor and console

If you need Linux, mobile or a fuller detection and response platform from one agent, compare the other vendors we supply, such as Bitdefender or Trend Micro Endpoint Security.

Contact us with your device counts and ask us for a quote. We can deploy the agent, set policies by site or group and remove conflicting products.

How Forever Systems helps with endpoint protection

We are an independent UK IT and cyber security provider. We supply business antivirus and endpoint protection from several vendors, so we can recommend what fits your devices, your team and your budget rather than pushing one product.

  • Review what you have: we look at your current antivirus, your Microsoft licences and the devices you need to cover before suggesting anything new
  • Compare the options: next-generation antivirus, EDR and managed services from vendors including CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, ThreatDown, Bitdefender, Trend Micro, Sophos, Check Point, WatchGuard and Acronis
  • Licensing and quotes: the right edition and licence count for your Windows, Mac, Linux, server and mobile devices, with pricing confirmed at quote
  • Deployment and migration: we can help roll out agents, set policies and remove the old product cleanly
  • Support after go-live: help with policy tuning, alerts and renewals, with the scope agreed at quote

We can also help with the rest of your security, from endpoint security and EDR to Cyber Essentials and security awareness training.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Webroot is an OpenText company, and when we checked Webroot's UK website on 1 November 2026 it was still selling Webroot Business Endpoint Protection under the Webroot name.

Is Webroot SecureAnywhere the same as Webroot Business Endpoint Protection?

Yes. Webroot SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection is the fuller name for the same business product.

OpenText. It acquired Webroot's parent company, Carbonite, and Webroot's UK website describes Webroot as an OpenText company. The business products are still sold under the Webroot name.

Is Webroot Endpoint Protection an EDR?

No. It is prevention-focused antivirus. Webroot Core Endpoint Detection and Response is a separate per-device add-on on the same account.

Does Webroot protect Linux servers?

Webroot's published support list covers Windows desktops, macOS and Windows Server, not Linux. For Linux servers, look at vendors such as Bitdefender, Trend Micro or the others on our Linux antivirus page.

Can Webroot run alongside Microsoft Defender?

Webroot is designed not to conflict with other security software, but running two full antivirus products on one device is rarely sensible. We review your current set-up and recommend the cleanest configuration.
